In a small percentage of cases, despite our first-rate staff and collection tools, our professional collection efforts fail to convince a consumer to pay their debts. If a consumer cannot or will not pay a valid and owing debt, our clients need a secondary procedure by which they can maximize their collection investment.

This is handled by VCA's in-house legal department.  Run by a lawyer with 20 years of litigation and collections experience, this department provides a tremendous added value to our clients.
If an account is not collected within 30 days of receipt by VCA, the case is sent to the legal department, where it is reviewed immediately by our experienced staff of paraprofessionals.  If the account meets a predetermined set of criteria, our in-house counsel will then assess it. Because VCA effectively has an in-house legal team, we can execute legal remedies quickly and cost effectively.

If our attorney deems the account suit-worthy, he will obtain authorization from our client to file a lawsuit against the consumer.  No lawsuit will be filed without the express, written consent of our clients. Once authorization is received, suit will be filed in the jurisdiction appropriate for each particular consumer.  Where allowed by law, and again with our clients’ express authorization, judgments, liens and wage garnishments will be sought.

In addition to action in local courts, our in-house counsel has at his disposal a nationwide network of over 1000 attorneys who can file suit against a consumer in any state or jurisdiction allowed by law.  This network provides us incredible reach and efficiency at no additional cost.
